When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, "Who do people say that the Son of Man is?"
"Well," they replied, "some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah, and others say Jeremiah or one of the other prophets."
Then he asked them, "Who do you say I am?"
Simon Peter answered, "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God."
Jesus replied, "You are blessed, Simon son of John, because my Father in heaven has revealed this to you. You did not learn this from any human being.
Matthew 16:13-17, New Living Translation (NLT)
The most important question you will ever answer in this life is this: Who do you say Jesus Christ is? It is a question that each person must answer for himself or herself. The people around you may say that Jesus was a great teacher, a prophet, a holy man ... but the condition of your soul does not depend on what the people around you say.
The Bible says,
For if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved ... For "Anyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." Romans 10:9-10;13, NLT
So how can you call on the Lord? It is as simple as A, B, C.
Admit that you have sinned and that your sin separates you from God.
For all have sinned and fall short of God's glorious standard. Romans 3: 23, NLT
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23, NLT
If we say we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and refusing to accept the truth. But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forvie us and to cleanse us from every wrong. 1 John 1:8-9, NLT
Believe that Jesus is truly the only one who can save you because He is the one and only Son of God.
For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16, NLT
God saved you by his special favor when you believed. And you can't take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. Ephesians 2:8-9, NLT
Commit your life and your eternity to Jesus Christ.
For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so that we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. Ephesians 2:10, NLT
What this means is that those who become Christians become new persons. They are not the same anymore, for the old life is gone. A new life has begun! 2 Corinthians 5:17, NLT
So, are you ready to call on the Lord? Has God revealed Himself to you? If so, you can pray. There are no magic words, but here is a model that you can use to help you pray:
Lord Jesus, I admit that I have sinned against You. I know that keeps me from You and Your plan and I'm sorry. I have tried living my way and now I want to live Your way. Please come into my life and make me a new person. I believe that You died on the cross to pay the penalty for my sin and that You rose from the dead to make eternal life possible for me. I want You to be in control of my life, to be with me every moment, and to take me to heaven when I die. Thank You for saving me. In Jesus' name, Amen.
